Immediate- Post op

You will be transferred to recovery by the anaesthetist and anaesthetic nurse. The nurses in recovery will ensure all patients have ice packs applied to the surgical area. Mechanical DVT prophylaxis in the form of calf compression devices will be used to prevent blood clots. Any discomfort will be addressed before being transferred to the ward or in rare cases to the high-dependency unit (patients with very significant pre-surgery medical problems – for overnight observation). Assoc.Prof McMahon will check on you after surgery and each day until discharge. A physician will also see you on the ward to manage medical issues.
